  • Try to create unique and quality content in your site, and your site is going to be the most targeted from Google
  • Think what is the best content for you on other sites, and write that on yours
  • Make people laugh, so they will be happy to visit you again
  • Read news daily and write articles on them, every one wants to know what is going on
  • When visitors will see that your blog has potential, they will link you, that’s how you will get Backlinks

Download DirectX 10 for Windows XP

Now DirectX 10 is available for Windows XP to download. The DirectX 10 for XP is said to be in alpha version. It is said to work for Windows XP and with directx 10 games and graphics card, they should be able to play directx 10 compatible games like they play in Microsoft’s Windows Vista.

However, Cody Brocious the leader of Alky Project has released a preview of Alky compatibility libraries for Microsoft DirectX 10 enabled games. This can be used for Windows Operating system other than Vista to play games which requires Directx 10.These libraries allow the use of DirectX 10 Games on platforms other than Windows Vista. This project was aimed to make DirectX 10 compatible games to run on Non Vista operating systems. It is said to increase hardware compatibility even on Vista, by compiling Geometry Shaders down to native machine code for execution where hardware isn’t capable of running it.No longer will you have to upgrade your OS and video card(s) to play the latest games.

Follow the following steps :
Download DirectX 10 Alky preview which can be also used with DX10 SDK.

Now the DirectX 10 Preview contains a read me file which contains the following:

To install:
Copy d3d10.dll, d3dx10.dll, d3dx10.dll, dxgi.dll, and Nucleus.dll to C:\windows\system32\

To get the examples:

To build and run an example:

  • Go to the Microsoft DirectX SDK folder, Samples, C++, Direct3D10, Tutorials, Tutorial12
  • Double-click “Tutorial12_2005.sln”
  • Select “Start Without Debugging” from the Debug menu.

There are a number of known issues with most of the tutorials, but they will all work to some extent. Tutorial 12 is currently the recommended example.

This above goes for XP only but if you want to install DirectX 10 on Windows Vista you may go to Download DirectX 10.1 with Shader Model 4.1 from Windows Vista.

Windows Vista RTM Activation Error Fiesta Ahead of SP1

Microsoft's latest Windows client brought to the table in November 2006 (for businesses) and in January 2007 (for the general consumers) a revamped activation architecture. But most importantly, Windows Vista features an intimate connection with Microsoft's Windows Genuine Advantage anti-piracy mechanism, as well as the Reduced Functionality Mode kill-switch designed to cut access to products detected as non-genuine or that failed to activate properly. But despite the fact that Microsoft was applauding a more flexible, accurate and secure activation process in comparison to Windows XP, the fact of the matter is that the latest Windows client did manage to produce its fair share of frustration to end users.

On April 11, 2008 Microsoft has updated a list of no less than 10 frequent error messages which prevented Vista RTM users from activating their copies of the operating system ahead of the delivery of Windows Vista Service Pack 1. KB951287 refers exclusively to error codes and error messages associated with the gold version of Vista, and do not point to any similar scenarios following the delivery of Service Pack 1.

Windows Vista SP1 was released to manufacturing on February 4, 2008, and then to the general public on March 18, via Windows Update and the Microsoft Download Center. In mid-April, the Redmond company will start distributing Vista SP1 through Automatic Updates. One of the most important aspects of the Vista SP1 evolution is the fact that it kills off Reduced Functionality Mode. Microsoft has in fact taken the Vista SP1 non-genuine and non-activated behavior back to the same model it implemented with Windows XP, namely a notifications-based experience. The Redmond company revealed that the measure was delivered as a way for Vista SP1 to keep up with the antipiracy threat. But at the same time Microsoft has always failed to disclose the exact number of Vista users that had their operating systems erroneously moved to Reduced Functionality Mode.

Here is the compete list of Vista RTM activation error codes and messages courtesy of Microsoft:
1. Error code 0xC004C003 The activation server determined that the specific product key is in use. This error code indicates that the product key that you entered has already been activated, and you must obtain a different product key.

2. Error code 0xC004E003 The Software Licensing Service reported that the license evaluation failed. This error code indicates that you must rerun the Windows Vista activation process.

3. Error code 0x80072EFD A Connection with the server could not be established. This error code indicates that there may be issues with your Internet connection. Verify that your Internet connection is working, and then try to activate Windows Vista again.

4. Error code 0xC004F050 The Software Licensing Service reported that the product key is invalid.

Sony Ericsson W760 review: Walkman meets GPS

Sony Ericsson W760 made a name for being the first Sony Ericson phone to offer an integrated GPS receiver. With a large QVGA display, stereo speakers, Media Center and the 3 megapixel camera on top, the W760 packs a nice punch. It's an exciting slider that may look no-thrills on the outside, but has all the prospects of becoming a bestseller.

Expected in Q2 2008 Sony Ericsson W760 may as well make this summer hotter. It's got nearly all the high-end Walkman stuff. Right from the very first moment we saw it, we were struck by the resemblance to Sony Ericsson W850. Both handsets share pretty much the same size, form factor and market positioning, so we think it's a safe bet the W760 is the true successor of W850, bringing the best of the Walkman range to the current Sony Ericsson lineup.
For starters, the W760 takes advantage of the proprietary Sony Ericsson Media Center enabling users to organize and enjoy all their multimedia files, be it music, video, photos, games or streaming content such as YouTube. The Sony Ericsson Media Center offers ease-of-use and rich functionality unmatched by current feature phones on the market.
The user experience with the Media Center is further enhanced by the built-in accelerometer that enables screen auto rotation, as well as Shake control. Speaking of multimedia, the W760 packs in the latest Walkman 3.0 player and even supports the SensMe mood recognition feature that allows creating playlists based on mood and tempo.
On top of that, you also get the benefit of the integrated GPS receiver - you can use it to geotag your photos, work out with the Tracker fitness application or use turn-by-turn navigation and Points of Interest search.
Sony Ericsson W760 will be available in three different color versions: Rocky Silver, Fancy Red, and Intense Black. We had the grey/silver one for a review. A definite thumbs-up for the 1GB memory card in the retail package, though we've seen Walkmans ship with 2-gig cards.

Exchange Traded Funds (ETF)

An ETF represents a collection or "basket" of assets such as stocks, bonds, or futures. Institutional investors can redeem large blocks of shares of the ETF for the underlying assets or, alternately, exchange the underlying assets for creation units. An ETF takes the form of a collective investment scheme and combines the valuation feature of a mutual fund or unit investment trust, which can be purchased or redeemed at the end of each trading day for its net asset value, with the tradability feature of a closed-end fund, which trades throughout the trading day at prices that may be substantially more or less than its net asset value.

Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) from Northern Exchange Traded Shares (NETS) allow flexibility and convenience in the trading of fund groups. ETFs can be traded more like stocks than mutual funds, so you can buy and sell them in the same day. That really makes our life very easy.

Now WGA (Windows Genuine Advantage)to Microsoft Office also

Now Microsoft will add Genuine Advantage for office which would have a "nag" like in Windows Vista. But for now the Microsoft is launching this is Chile,Italy,Spain and Turkey.

So what I have to face if my Microsoft Office is not Genuine?
With the OGA validation process that was introduced the non-Genuine user was not only able to download office template or other downloads. But with this new WGA for office there would be a icon on the ribbon stating that its non-Genuine.Don`t worry there is MORE!

The Non-Genuine users will also receive a pop-up dialog box for first time they open an office application and again 2 hours later for 30 days about their software being not genuine and information on getting a Genuine Copy. Also the Office application will be marked with the visual remainder that the copy is not Genuine.

Lets see when Office WGA is implemented in all countries.

I don't want to be nagged , what should I do?
Purchase a Genuine Microsoft Office..

Any Workaround this WGA?
There is nothing till now surfaced on the internet to Crack the WGA , but its just a matter of time before someone releases a hack.

Windows Vista Copy Protection Cracked

More than a year after Windows Vista was introduced, hackers have finally developed a clean crack of Windows Vista. There have been a variety of workarounds for Vista's copy protection before now, but this is the first time someone has figured out a way to install a cracked version that would pass all of Microsoft's various anti-piracy checks. It seems that certain OEMs found the activation process too burdensome and persuaded Microsoft to provide them with a way to bypass it in order to save their own customers the hassle. Hackers figured out how to activate this special "no activation" mode on cracked copies of Vista. I think this is one of the biggest reasons copy protection schemes fail: they almost always creates serious inconveniences for customers, and irritating customers hurts the bottom line. Companies may talk a tough line about fighting piracy, but when push comes to shove, they're not willing to cut off their own nose to spite their face by insisting on enforcing a copy protection scheme that would put their product at a disadvantage in the marketplace.

Of course, the obvious question is why companies implement copy protection schemes in the first place if they invariably wind up compromising them. The reason, I think, is that these trade-offs are almost never made explicit to corporate decision makers ahead of time. When the copy protection plan is being pitched to management, its developers only talk about how great it will work. Only later, once it's actually being implemented, do people start noticing that it will also cause a lot of problems. But by that time, the copy protection system is too far along the development process to be canned, so instead exceptions are added. These exceptions prevent the copy protection system from crippling the product, but they also undermine its effectiveness as an anti-piracy measure. So customers have to deal with annoying restrictions and the product still gets pirated.

Fast shutdown in Windows vista using Registry Hack

Open Regedit (WINDOWS KEY + R) on your keyboard, or by clicking Start and typing on the search bar "regedit" without quotes. Hit Enter

Navigate to

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control]

On the right panel look for the "WaitToKillServiceTimeout" string and change it value to 1000 by right clicking the string and selecting Modify...

Default Value WaitToKillServiceTimeout=20000

Modified value WaitToKillServiceTimeout=5000
Modified value WaitToKillServiceTimeout=1000 (extreme, use it at your own risk)

I found 3000 worked nicely but try the 5000 first. 3000 does sometimes leave some programs lagging which then need a further key click.

ULP Bluetooth Connects 50 Times Faster than Bluetooth 2.1

CSR demonstrated Ultra Low Power Bluetooth (formerly WiBree) data transfers recently, and showed that the technology can connect and send data up to 50 times faster and consume one-tenth the power of current Bluetooth technology. ULP Bluetooth is complimentary to standard Bluetooth, and uses a separate radio. Rather than stay constantly connected, ULP Bluetooth devices will connect when necessary using just three frequencies (rather than standard Bluetooth's 32), send a burst of simple data at high speeds, and then shut off. Because the device transfers data so quickly and spends more time off than standard Bluetooth, it uses less power. Stand-alone ULP Bluetooth devices will have battery life that is measured in years.

Linux Standard SubDirectories

/bin

This contains binary files that can be used both by the root user and ordinary users, but are essential to operation in single-user mode, when some other directory structures may not be mounted. For example, core commands such as cat and ls would normally be found in here, as will sh.

/boot

This directory is used for files required during booting of the Linux system. It is frequently quite small, less than 100 MB, and often a separate partition. This is
handy on PC-based systems, where there are frequently BIOS limitations on the active partition, requiring it to be in the first 2 G or 4 G of the disk. Having this as a separate partition allows more flexibility when deciding how to lay out the rest of the disk partitions.

/dev

This contains the special device files that map to hardware. For example, /dev/hda will be mapped to the first IDE disk.

/etc

This contains configuration files. Historically some binaries could also be found in here, but that is no longer true on most Linux systems. The best-known file in the /etc directory is probably passwd, which contains information on users. Other useful files are fstab, listing mount options; hosts, listing IP to host name mappings, and the httpd directory, which contains configuration for the Apache server.

/home

This is a directory for user files. Normally each user will have a single directory under this directory with the same name as their login, and this will be their default login directory. For example, after logging in, the user rick will almost certainly find himself in the /home/rick directory.

/lib

This contains essential shared libraries and kernel modules, specifically those that will be required while the system is booting or in single user mode.

/mnt

This is simply a convenient place for mounting additional file systems temporarily. Normally there will be subdirectories for the different devices, such as /cdrom and /floppy.

/opt

This is a directory for software vendors to use when adding software applications. By convention, distributions generally don’t use it for software they distribute as part of the standard distribution, but leave it free for third-party vendors to use. Generally, vendors will create a subdirectory with their name, and then further subdirectories such as /bin and /lib for files specific to their application. By convention, most Open Source Linux packages use /usr/local for installation.

/root

This is for files used by the root user. It is not in the /home directory part of the tree, because that may not be mounted in single-user mode.

/sbin

This is used for commands normally used only by the system administrator, and required while the system is booting or in single user mode. Commands such as fsck, halt, and swapon live here.

/tmp

This is used for temporary files. It is usually, but not always, cleared when the system is booted.

What is COM ( Component Object Model )

In one statement - Component Object Model (COM) is a binary programming standard. If you genetically combine a whale and a dinosaur, imagine you get a new super dino-whale species. Combining the two higher level programming models, Object based and Distributed computing, a new super high level COM programming model has evolved.

Object oriented software has solved numerous software industry challenges like reuse and productivity. Distributed computing architectures like parallel processing, master/slave, peer to peer, client/server, etc., has alleviated the problems with monolithic software. By combining some of the finest features of these two techniques, the COM standard enforces and enables the engineers to build reusable binary compatible software.

Some of the advantages of the Component Object Model are:

  • Location Transparency. The component’s clients don’t have to know the location of the components. The client software can be sitting on a lion’s computer in the deepest jungle in Africa, whereas the server components can be on a host machine with the arctic bears.

  • Wire Level Standard. The component users don’t have to know anything about the underlying network mechanisms, TCP/IP or NETBIOS, to use the components. They don’t have to understand or learn anything about network programming. The COM library takes care of it for you.

  • Binary Standard. The users don’t have to know about the programming languages – C, B, VB, Java, Tea – used to build the components. Regardless of what language you use to build the components and objects, it works. So, your company can have programmers with different programming skills. But, as long as they build components, you don’t have to bother about training your employees in new programming languages.

Also, the users don’t have to bother about whether the programming tools – Borland C++, Visual Basic, Symantec C++, compilers, linkers, interpreters - were sold by Microsoft or Symantec or Borland. The client and server components can be developed with different tools, and they will all interact properly as long as they adhere to the COM programming model.

  • Runtime Polymorphism. At runtime the client detects the right component it wants and uses its services. This means you don’t have to recompile your client every time you make a change to your server. The components don’t mutate. Once, you release a component, if you want to make a change then you release a new component. If the client wants the new services, only then you have to modify your client.

Advantages and Drawbacks of Threads

Multiple strands of execution in a single program are called threads. A more precise definition is that a thread is a sequence of control within a process. Linux first acquired thread support around 1996, with a library often referred to as "LinuxThreads.” This was very close to the POSIX standard.

Advantages and Drawbacks of Threads

Creating a new thread has some distinct advantages over creating a new process in certain circumstances. The overhead cost of creating a new thread is significantly less than that of creating a new process (though Linux is particularly efficient at creating new processes compared with some other operating systems).

Following are some of the uses of threads:

❑ Sometimes it is very useful to make a program appear to do two things at once. The classic example is to perform a real-time word count on a document while still editing the text. One thread can manage the user’s input and perform editing. The other, which can see the same document content, can continuously update a word count variable. The first thread (or even a third one) can use this shared variable to keep the user informed. Another example is a multithreaded database server where an apparent single process serves multiple clients, improving the overall data throughput by servicing some requests while blocking others, waiting for disk activity. For a database server, this apparent multitasking is quite hard to do efficiently in different processes, because the requirements for locking and data consistency cause the different processes to be very tightly coupled. This can be done much more easily with multiple threads than with multiple processes.

❑ The performance of an application that mixes input, calculation and output may be improved by running these as three separate threads. While the input or output thread is waiting for a connection, one of the other threads can continue. Thus, while any application can ultimately do only one thing at a time, threads enable an application to do something useful while it waits for such things as connections. A server application processing multiple network connects may also be a natural fit for a multithreaded program.

❑ In general, switching between threads requires the operating system to do much less work than switching between processes. Thus, multiple threads are much less demanding on resources thanmultiple processes, and it is more practical to run programs that logically require many threads of execution on single processor systems. That said, the design difficulties of writing a multithreaded program are significant and should not be taken lightly.

Threads also have drawbacks:

❑ Writing multithreaded programs requires very careful design. The potential for introducing subtle timing faults, or faults caused by the unintentional sharing of variables in a multithreaded program is considerable. Alan Cox (the Linux guru who wrote the forward to this book) has commented that threads are also known as “how to shoot yourself in both feet at once.”

❑ Debugging a multithreaded program is much harder than debugging a single-threaded one,
because the interactions between the threads are very hard to control.

❑ Aprogram that splits a large calculation into two and runs the two parts as different threads will not necessarily run more quickly on a single processor machine, as there are only so many CPU cycles to be had, though if nothing else is trying to execute and you have multiple processors or a hyperthreaded CPU, a multiple thread approach may offer benefits.

The GNU Project and the Free Software Foundation

The Linux community (together with others) supports the concept of free software, that is, software that is free from restrictions, subject to the GNU General Public License. Although there may be a cost involved in obtaining the software, it can thereafter be used in any way desired and is usually distributed in source form.

The Free Software Foundation was set up by Richard Stallman, the author of GNU Emacs, one of the best-known text editors for UNIX and other systems. Stallman is a pioneer of the free software concept and started the GNU Project (the name GNU stands for GNU’s Not Unix), an attempt to create an operating system and development environment that would be compatible with UNIX but not suffer the restrictions of the proprietary UNIX name and source code. GNU may turn out to be very different from UNIX at the lowest level but still supports UNIX applications.
The GNU Project has already provided the software community with many applications that closely mimic those found on UNIX systems. All these programs, so-called GNU software, are distributed under the terms of the GNU General Public License (GPL), a copy of that may be found at http://www.gnu.org. This license embodies the concept of copyleft (a takeoff on “copyright”). Copyleft is intended to prevent others from placing restrictions on the use of free software.

A few major examples of software from the GNU Project distributed under the GPL follow:

❑ GCC: The GNU Compiler Collection, containing the GNU C compiler
❑ G++: A C++ compiler, included as part of GCC
❑ GDB: A source code–level debugger
❑ GNU make: A version of UNIX make
❑ Bison: A parser generator compatible with UNIX yacc
❑ bash: A command shell
❑ GNU Emacs: A text editor and environment

Many other packages have been developed and released using free software principles and the GPL,including graphical image manipulation tools such as the Gimp, spreadsheets, source code control tools, compilers and interpreters, Internet tools, and two complete object-based environments: GNOME and KDE.
